Manuka & Wound Science

Medical-grade Manuka honey research, apiary telemetry, and evidence-based wound care

A 44-page independent research site connecting the biology of the hive to the clinical evidence behind pharmaceutical-grade wound care. Seven live public data feeds keep it current without anyone touching a keyboard.

Overview

About This Site

Manuka & Wound Science covers two subjects that most publishers treat separately. One is the clinical application of medical-grade Manuka honey in advanced wound care. The other is the apiary biology that determines whether a given batch of honey is potent enough to belong in a clinical setting at all. The site treats those as a single supply chain and follows it end to end, from foraging conditions in the field to the dressing on a wound.

The audience is specific: wound care clinicians, medical procurement specialists, beekeepers, and researchers. So the writing does not soften the chemistry. Pages on methylglyoxal antibacterial science and biofilm disruption get into mechanism rather than marketing, and the clinical wound healing research section pulls directly from peer-reviewed sources instead of summarizing them second-hand.

What separates the site from a static reference library is that a large part of it updates itself. Research feeds pull new papers from PubMed and recruiting studies from ClinicalTrials.gov. Space weather data from NOAA feeds a tracker that models how geomagnetic activity disrupts honey bee navigation. Legislative activity comes straight from the Congress.gov API. None of this is scraped or cached by hand. It is fetched live in the browser, every visit.

Alongside the research pages sits the Bee-to-Bandage manual series, 21 lessons across three modules covering aseptic beekeeping standards, processing and maturation protocols, and clinical application procedure. A heritage section adds five long-form pages on apiary history, sustainable pollinator habitat, and varietal honeys outside the Manuka category.

What Feeds the Site

Every feed below is a public API, fetched client-side at page load. No database, no scheduled scraping, no stale content.

  • NOAA Space Weather Planetary Kp index used to model geomagnetic disruption of honey bee navigation.
  • PubMed E-Utilities Live search and summary calls surfacing new peer-reviewed Manuka and wound care literature.
  • ClinicalTrials.gov Currently recruiting trial data so clinicians can see what is actively under study.
  • Semantic Scholar Citation tracking, with retry logic built in to handle rate limiting gracefully.
  • Congress.gov Federal legislation search covering pollinator and medical device policy.
  • Weather and Geolocation Zip code resolution plus localized forecast data driving the foraging conditions report.
Under the Hood

Built With

Hand-written HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. No build step, no bundler, no dependency tree to maintain.

  • Hosting Cloudflare Pages, deployed from the command line with Wrangler
  • Frontend Semantic HTML5, hand-coded CSS, vanilla JavaScript across all 44 pages
  • API Layer A Cloudflare Worker proxy keeping third-party API keys off the client
  • Visualization D3.js and Chart.js, loaded only on the pages that actually render charts
  • Structured Data JSON-LD graphs with MedicalWebPage, Organization, and BreadcrumbList on every page
  • URL Design Extensionless clean URLs enforced across links, canonicals, and the sitemap
