About This Site
What the platform does and who it serves
Researching a zoo before you visit usually means choosing between the facility's own marketing copy and a pile of one-line star ratings from people who may never have walked through the gate. Wildly Seen Adventures takes a different route. Every facility gets a first-hand visit on video, and every visitor is invited to score that facility on the same three criteria: care, purpose, and experience.
Two rating systems run in parallel and are deliberately never blended. WSA's Official Score is the site's own assessment. The Trailblazer Score is the running average of visitor submissions through the public scorecard. Keeping them separate means you can see exactly where the reviewer and the visiting public disagree, which is often the most useful thing on the page. Both appear side by side in the community rankings leaderboard.
Underneath the whole site is a Cloudflare D1 database holding 199 locations with coordinates, hours, contact details, species spotlights, visit tips, and verdicts. Individual review pages are generated from that data. So is the map, the rankings board, the search index, and the sitemap. Adding one location to the database adds it everywhere at once, with no page duplication and no manual sitemap editing.
The site also installs as an app. A web manifest and service worker make it a full progressive web app, which matters more than it sounds when someone is standing in a parking lot on spotty signal trying to decide whether a place is worth the admission price.

Adventure Reels
Each review pairs an embedded video walkthrough with a written introduction, a featured species profile covering taxonomy and habitat, practical visit tips, a conservation spotlight, the WSA verdict, and the full video transcript for anyone who would rather read than watch.
Browse the reviews →Community Rankings
A filterable, sortable board of every tracked facility. Narrow by state, search by name, and compare the site's official score against the community Trailblazer average for the same location, with both numbers shown separately rather than merged.
See the rankings →Animal Field Guide
Search any animal by common or scientific name and get back a structured fact sheet: taxonomy, habitat, diet, lifespan, typical weight, and IUCN conservation status, with a Wikipedia extract filling in supplementary detail when the primary source is thin.
Look up a species →Zoo Map
Every reviewed and tracked facility plotted from the coordinates stored in the database, so the map never drifts out of sync with the rest of the site. Useful for finding what is worth a detour on a route you are already driving.

The parts that are not obvious from the front end
- Edge Database Cloudflare D1 stores every location and every community rating as SQLite at the edge, close to the visitor.
- Dynamic Routes Pages Functions render review pages, the map, and live stream players on request from database records.
- Self-Updating Sitemap The sitemap is generated from the Locations table, so a newly added facility is submitted for indexing without anyone editing XML.
- Submission Integrity Scorecard entries are logged against IP address and browser token to deter repeat voting and score manipulation.
- Offline Capable A service worker and web manifest make the site installable and usable on weak connections.
- Accessibility Target Built to WCAG 2.1 with semantic HTML5 markup throughout rather than retrofitted afterward.
